PD ETHIOPIA VISITED THE DEBARK INTERNALLY DISPLACED PEOPLE (IDP) SITE
PD Ethiopia and our local partner peace 1st Ethiopia jointly visited the Debark internally displaced people (IDP) site. It is one of the IDP site located in Debark city, North Gondar zone, which had more than 3000 people. Among those, 1647 were children which needs urgent nutritional support.
We witnessed that the displaced people have no sufficient food, shelter, mattress, medical supplies. Especially, in the rainy season, the situation gets worse as the rain flood can easily entered to their temporary tents. The food shortage exposes children and mothers for malnutrition. In addition, there is limited rehabilitation service.
On the world refuge day, we are happy to provide nutritional assistance for 130 women and children for 1 month. However, the assistance is insignificant compared to the need for urgent support. Ethiopia has been in internal conflict for the past 2 years which leads to a grave humanitarian consequence. An estimated 7 million people are facing severe food insecurity in Northern Ethiopia. Currently, millions in needs urgent lifesaving support. We call up on local and international organizations to work with us to provide humanitarian assistance.
